Mrs. Boorsma's Background I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee and attended Metro Nashville Public Schools through grade eight. In ninth grade, I transitioned to a small private school, which allowed me to continue to grow as a student, athlete, and person. I am extremely grateful for all the teachers and coaches that invested in my life, as I believe they have truly helped shaped me into who I am today. Realizing the impact of a teacher, I made the decision to choose education as my career path. I graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a degree in Middle School Education in 2008 and have been in the classroom ever since.
I taught in MNPS for one year, and then had a strong desire to live and teach internationally. Over the next six years, I worked at two different international schools in Japan, which taught American curriculum to students from around the world. I then returned back to MNPS for three years, and had the opportunity to teach at the very middle school I attended as a student, DuPont Hadley. Thinking that my international days were over, my husband expressed that he would also like the opportunity to live internationally. We spent a year living in Zhengzhou, China, where I taught Algebra and Geometry to Chinese students learning English. The 2023-2024 school year will be my fifth year at Meigs. I love being at Meigs because of the amazing staff, students, and parents!
Mrs. Boorsma's Interest and Activities: I have enjoyed playing and watching sports since I was a child, and played basketball, volleyball, and softball for my high school. I believe sports increase accountability and sense of responsibility and teach athletes to have pride in themselves and each other through celebrating personal victories as well as team success. I am honored to be the girls basketball coach at Meigs!
Anyone that knows me, knows that I love to travel. I have traveled to 54 countries, and am always planning my next trip. Traveling has opened my eyes to the world and taught me to not only respect other cultures, but to truly appreciate and love all people. As a teacher, I hope to share my love of traveling with my students, and help them see outside of their own walls.
